Ida Ballard Simon Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this scholarship fund is to assist eligible graduating seniors from City of Memphis Public Schools pursue a higher education in one of two ways:
1) provide an annual book scholarship to eligible seniors, or
2) assist graduating senior (s) attend Lincoln University in
Jefferson City, Missouri
(Ida’s Undergraduate College Alma
Mater),
once
this fund becomes endowed.
Beginning May 2009, annual book scholarships (up to $500.00 annually) became available to graduating seniors of Memphis City Public Schools that have accepted and enrolled into a Historical Black College or University (HBCU) or Technical / Trade School.
Applications for 2010 graduating seniors will be considered complete when ALL of the following are
submitted and received by July 15, 2011:
a) Letter of recommendation from a teacher
or mentor
b) Letter of recommendation from a non-relative
c) Official Transcript which includes cumulative grade point
average, class rank and size
(If not available, request percent ranking in
class from guidance counselor)
d) ACT and/or SAT score (if planning to attend an HBCU)
e) Completed application with 1 essay (500 words or more)
f) Attached graduation photo
g) Acceptance letter from HBCU or technical / trade school
Funds for this scholarship award are raised by holding annual golf
tournament, charitable events and tax-deductible donations
received from
businesses and individuals.
Once this fund becomes endowed, a 4-year full scholarship to Lincoln
University – Jefferson City, Missouri will become available
to eligible student(s).
This fund has been established by friends and siblings of Ida Ballard Simon and will
be administered by the Lincoln University Foundation, Inc.
